What is this?

On The Soi is an independent, community-oriented guide to Soi Ta Iad — the 1.5-kilometer street in Chalong, Phuket, that the world knows as "Fitness Street."

With over a dozen Muay Thai gyms, CrossFit boxes, yoga studios, healthy cafes, and more packed into a single soi, it can be overwhelming to figure out what's what. This site aims to catalog every business, provide honest guides, and keep schedules up to date — all in one place.

Why does this exist?

Every year we'd land in Phuket, walk down the soi, and spend the first three days asking the same questions: "Is that gym still open?" "Where's the good acai bowl now?" "Did that massage place move?" The information was scattered across outdated blog posts, dead Instagram accounts, and word of mouth from whoever happened to be at the hostel.

After one too many walks past a shuttered restaurant we'd been excited to try, we decided to just build the thing we wished existed. On The Soi is that thing — an honest, independent, always-updating guide to Fitness Street.

On The Soi is different:

  • Independent — Not affiliated with or sponsored by any gym, hotel, or business
  • Comprehensive — Every business on the soi, not just the popular ones
  • Community hub — Telegram and WhatsApp groups connecting residents, visitors, and business owners
  • Community-maintained — Message our bot or drop a note in the groups to submit corrections
  • No ads, no tracking — Just information

About Soi Ta Iad

Soi Ta Iad (also spelled Soi Taied, Soi Ta-Iad, or Soi Tai Ed) is a road in Chalong, southern Phuket, Thailand. It connects Chao Fa Road East to Chao Fa Road West and runs roughly 1.5 kilometers. It's about 45-60 minutes from Phuket International Airport.

Over the past two decades, the street has transformed from a quiet residential soi into one of the world's most concentrated fitness destinations. Tiger Muay Thai, which opened in 2003, was the catalyst — today the street hosts 15+ gyms and training camps, numerous healthy restaurants, accommodation, and supporting services.

The street is known by many names: Fitness Street, Fighter Street, Phuket Health Street, Thailand's Fitness Street, Muay Thai Street, and "The Fittest Street in the World."

Nick launched his first startup at 15, built a consultancy that served Nike, National Geographic, and TED, then sold it to GoPro where he became VP of Software and Services. After the IPO, he left to travel the world and figure out what was next. Somewhere between a Muay Thai camp and a plate of pad kra pao, Soi Ta Iad became a yearly pilgrimage. He now coaches startup founders on building lives they actually want — usually from wherever the WiFi is decent.

Nick and JT are husbands, business partners at Polymath, and annual Soi Ta Iad regulars. They split their time between Los Angeles and wherever there's good training, good food, and their shih-tzu Madame Wu is welcome.
