About On The Soi
What is this?
On The Soi is an independent, community-oriented guide to Soi Ta Iad — the 1.5-kilometer street in Chalong, Phuket, that the world knows as "Fitness Street."
With over a dozen Muay Thai gyms, CrossFit boxes, yoga studios, healthy cafes, and more packed into a single soi, it can be overwhelming to figure out what's what. This site aims to catalog every business, provide honest guides, and keep schedules up to date — all in one place.
Why does this exist?
Soi Ta Iad is a special place, but finding reliable, up-to-date information is surprisingly hard. Businesses come and go, hours change, and most places rely on Instagram or Facebook rather than proper websites. Existing guides tend to promote specific businesses or individuals.
On The Soi is different:
- Independent — Not affiliated with or sponsored by any gym, hotel, or business
- Comprehensive — Every business on the soi, not just the popular ones
- Open source — All data is in structured JSON and Markdown files on GitHub
- Community hub — Telegram and WhatsApp groups connecting residents, visitors, and business owners
- Community-maintained — Anyone can submit corrections or additions via pull request
- No ads, no tracking — Just information
